Anti-inflammatory Spices - Add Flavour and Health Benefits To Your Meals.

If you don't know already, inflammation is bad for the body.

Chronic inflammation is often linked to chronic diseases such as diabetes, cardiovascular disease( including heart attacks and stroke) certain infections (such as hepatitis C), autoimmune diseases, and even cancer 1. And it has been shown that a plant-based diet can help reduce inflammation. From an analysis of studies it has been stated "Overall, studies suggest that the higher your intake of fruit and vegetables, the more you may support a healthy inflammatory response. Aiming for a wide variety of naturally colorful fruits and vegetables in your diet can help you eat a range of vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, and phytochemicals with potential anti-inflammatory impacts." 2. In addition, we have discussed anti-inflammatory foods in previous blog posts and we always highlight the benefits of plant-based diets on inflammation, anti-oxidative health, and overall health.

But are there additional foods that one can eat to help reduce inflammation? Yes, spices!

Whether as a spice or in a sauce there are some seriously beneficial spices to help reduce inflammation in your body. These spices can be added to your food, sprinkled on top, consumed as a side, and even added to your drinks such as smoothies or juices.

Here's a list of anti-inflammatory spices that can 'spice up' your plant-based meals:

    • Turmeric: Contains curcumin, a powerful anti-inflammatory compound that can reduce inflammation and pain. It is especially effective in treating conditions like arthritis and inflammatory bowel disease.
